We are proud to announce the Winners of the 2009 Glimpses in Time International Juried Exhibition

June 11, 2009


Master Photographers working in all styles and mediums have been selected at the
international juried photography exhibition: Glimpses in Time. 61 photographs

were selected from a group 154 images by René de Guzman, Senior Art Curator,

Oakland Museum of California our sole Juror.

The photographers come from all over the world United States, France,

Germany, Japan Argentina and Mexico. The following are the award winners:

The opening for the exhibit will be on Friday, July 3, 2009 5:30pm to 9:30pm.

The Dates of the show are July 3 to July 31, 2009.

Every year the Joyce Gordon Gallery presents the “Glimpses in Time” exhibit to

honor a Master Photographer. This year we celebrate Manuel Álvarez Bravo, a

Mexican photographer born in 1902. Bravo’s work not only documents life in

Mexico but also visually explores a surrealistic approach to the composition of his

photographic subject.

About the Juror:

René de Guzman has been named senior curator of art at the Oakland Museum

of California. Previously director of visual arts at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena

Center for the Arts (YBCA), de Guzman joined the Oakland Art Museum in 2007.

De Guzman’s work has encompassed international exhibitions, community

collaborations, artist commissions, and investigations of how the fine arts interact

with popular culture. His work includes Bay Area Now, Hip-Hop by the Bay,

Beautiful Losers and Black Panther Rank and File to name a few.
